Enrichment Class program

A enrichment class, how do you organize that?

In your school, there might already be considerable attention given to students with high cognitive abilities. Many of these children find sufficient challenge through the compacting and enrichment activities already available. However, some gifted students still feel unfulfilled and seek further enrichment opportunities. This is where the idea of an enrichment class comes in. Perhaps your school already has such a program, but it may not always run smoothly.

As a teacher, you start with great enthusiasm but soon encounter hurdles. The rest of the teaching team might not be enthusiastic about starting an enrichment program, or it may not receive the attention it deserves from colleagues. Frequently, classes get canceled due to conflicting schedules or lack of support. Additionally, you may lack the necessary knowledge about cognitive giftedness and struggle to generate new ideas over time. Repetition of the same projects becomes challenging, and you might wonder which ideas require less preparation. Sometimes, materials purchased turn out to be unsuitable, and budget constraints add to the challenge. Moreover, it can be unclear which students should participate, leading to further complications, especially when dealing with demanding parents. This cycle can drain the enthusiasm of even the most dedicated teachers, eventually leading to the abandonment of the program.

If your school is considering or already has plans for an enrichment class and requires assistance, we can help you establish a successful enrichment program. With our guidance, teachers can maintain their enthusiasm and even find renewed energy. Witnessing the joy on the faces of gifted students and receiving praise from satisfied parents can be incredibly rewarding. Our program ensures that you're equipped to create and sustain a robust enrichment class, setting a strong foundation for future years. By following our approach, you'll avoid investing in inappropriate materials and navigate potential challenges more effectively.

Initial meeting

Before proceeding, a meeting is arranged with the school's administration to address several key questions:

  • What current measures are implemented at the school to support highly capable students?
  • What level of understanding does the school possess regarding giftedness?
  • What is the school's capacity to accommodate this initiative?
  • Who is interested in collaborating on establishing an enrichment class?
  • Who has received training related to giftedness, enrichment classes, etc.?

It's important to note: an enrichment class is the icing on the cake. Initially, a school should prioritize sufficient support and differentiation within regular classrooms. Only after establishing a strong foundation in these areas can consideration be given to implementing an enrichment class. This will be discussed further during the initial meeting.

Offer

Below, we propose a procedure for integrating an enrichment program at your school. This can naturally be adjusted based on the responses provided during the initial meeting. Therefore, we customize each proposal accordingly.

Following the initial meeting, the administration will assemble a task force comprising the school's management, members of the support team, and the teacher(s) responsible for guiding the enrichment class(es). In the proposal outlined below, 6 meetings are scheduled, each lasting approximately 2 hours. The task force will provide feedback to the teaching team, perhaps presenting a summary at a team meeting after each session.
